The best gaming accessory we tried was easily the ASTRO Gaming A50 Headset, which offers wireless connectivity, an aesthetically pleasing angular design and advanced audio drivers that deliver unparalleled sound quality. We also liked the high quality manufacturing components, including durable earcups, and a best-in-class battery that gets more than 15 hours of use on a single charge. Keep reading to learn more about the ASTRO Gaming A50 Headset and the other items on this list.

Top of 7 Best Gaming Products

 #1  ASTRO Gaming A50 Headset

Award: TOP PICK

WHY WE LIKE IT: The best gaming headset in the business, with easy integration with Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and a fantastic lithium ion battery that gets 15 hours of use on a single charge.

Pros
  • 15 hours of battery life
  • Advanced audio drivers sound fantastic
  • Included base allows for instantaneous voice control
Cons
  • Mod kit allows further customization, but it costs extra
  • Not easy to integrate with Nintendo Switch
  • Somewhat stiff at first, until broken in

The ASTRO Gaming A50 Headset is of a fantastic quality, with extremely comfortable earcups, a best-in-class battery that gives 15 hours of use on a single charge and advanced audio drivers that deliver crisp sound, making both in-game music and human voices pop. We also liked the included charging base, which allows instantaneous adjustments along a variety of metrics, including just how loud voices are in comparison to noise effects and music.

Though this product excels while being used with the Xbox One, PC or PlayStation 4, it isn’t really designed to integrate with the Nintendo Switch, though that is more the console’s fault. Additionally, we found the model to be somewhat stiff at first, though it became much more comfortable with repeated use. This is one of the best ps4 headsets and best Xbox One headset you can buy today.

#2  Vertagear S-Line SL4000 Racing Series Gaming Chair

Award: HONORABLE MENTION

WHY WE LIKE IT: Best gaming chair on the market, featuring heavy duty aluminum alloy construction, an extremely comfortable seat and a highly adjustable design that is suited for most body types.

Pros
  • Best gaming chair
  • Heavy duty aluminum alloy construction
  • Highly adjustable to fit variety of human frames
Cons
  • Requires somewhat lengthy installation
  • Fairly heavy, at 45 lb
  • No built-in speakers

This Vertagear S-Line SL4000 Racing Series Gaming Chair is a fantastic product that is made almost entirely from heavy duty aluminum alloy and features an extremely comfortable foam seat design. We also loved the adjustability on offer, which allows this chair to easily suit a wide variety of body types, and the tilting feature, which comes in handy while playing intense video games that require some movement.

Though this product does excel as a gaming chair, it does not feature built-in speakers, which is something of a bummer. Also, it does require a manual installation, which we found to be slightly time consuming, though it was nowhere near the lengthiest install among the gaming chairs we tested. This chair will also work very well with the best gaming desk.

#3  Oculus Quest All-in-one VR Gaming Headset

Award: BEST VR HEADSET

WHY WE LIKE IT: Stellar all-in-one VR headset that delivers on its promise to deliver PC-quality virtual reality in a budget-friendly, and cord free, package, including a pair of Oculus Touch controllers.

Read Full Review: Oculus Quest Headset

Pros
  • Includes Oculus Touch controllers
  • Budget-friendly, compared to Rift or Vive
  • Does not need PC to function
Cons
  • PC-enabled VR headsets have better resolutions
  • Oculus Guardian system occasionally messes up
  • Some games and apps not available

This Oculus Quest All-in-one VR Gaming Headset is truly a plug-and-play device, requiring just wireless access to the Oculus mobile app in order to function, eschewing the many cables and powerful computers that are required to get the most out of the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive. The headset is great, delivering on its promise of budget-friendly VR, and it ships with a pair of Oculus Touch controllers, which we found to be of an extremely high quality.

Though the library is large, and growing, it does not allow access to some AAA virtual reality titles, whereas the Rift or Vive can play just about anything. Additionally, the Oculus Guardian system, which creates a virtual barrier as you play so you won’t run into furniture or walls, occasionally experienced a hiccup, though it wasn’t a huge deal. This is actually one fo the best gaming consoles you can buy right now.

 #4  Rii RK100+ Gaming Keyboard

Award: BEST GAMING KEYBOARD

WHY WE LIKE IT: Features a unique membrane design that operates and feels like a mechanical keyboard, with an excellent backlight, for nighttime gaming, and a budget-friendly price point.

Pros
  • Unique membrane design feels mechanical
  • Excellent backlight
  • Budget-friendly
Cons
  • Cannot customize lights
  • Does not allow swapping of keycaps
  • Wired design

The Rii RK100+ Gaming Keyboard is a truly unique product, offering a membrane design that operates and feels like a mechanical keyboard. This allows the company to offer the product at a budget-friendly price point without sacrificing too much on the feature set. The backlight is one of the best we tried, making using a gaming PC in the dark an absolute joy, and the weight and form factor are both on point.

Though this keyboard successfully apes a mechanical design in many ways, it does not allow for the swapping of keycaps, which is something of an oversight. Also, you cannot customize the lights, though we thoroughly enjoyed the rainbow light pattern on offer. Also check out our guide on the best smart glasses.

#5  Razer DeathAdder Elite Gaming Mouse

Award: BEST GAMING MOUSE

WHY WE LIKE IT: Features a best-in-class 16,000 DPI optical sensor, translating to extreme accuracy and sensitivity, with customizable RGB lighting and a rugged scroll wheel that performs exactly as advertised.

Read Full Review: Razer DeathAdder Elite Gaming Mouse

Pros
  • 16,000 DPI
  • Customizable lighting
  • Rugged scroll wheel
Cons
  • Some models feature more programmable buttons
  • Compatible with gaming consoles, but no access to software
  • Wired design only

The Razer DeathAdder Elite Gaming Mouse is the perfect choice for your gaming PC build, as it features a 16,000 DPI optical sensor, the highest we tried, which translates to an extremely accurate and sensitive performance. We also loved the customizable RGB lighting, with access to millions of colors and dozens of preset profiles, and the rugged scroll wheel, which has been rubberized for maximum accuracy.

Though this product does offer compatibility with gaming consoles, such as PlayStation 4, you will not be able to access the proprietary software with a console, which limits customization options. Additionally, though the seven programmable buttons on offer are awesome, we found that some models we tried had slightly more, as many as nine programmable buttons. Be sure you also invest in this, one of the best gaming mouse and one of our top rated gaming headsets.

 #6  Sony PlayStation 4 Slim

Award: BEST GAMING CONSOLE

WHY WE LIKE IT: The PlayStation 4 Slim is a fairly budget-friendly way to access Sony’s massive library of titles, with a 1TB hard drive built-in and shipping with the classic DualShock4 wireless controller.

Pros
  • Fantastic library of titles
  • 1TB hard drive
  • DualShock4 wireless controller included
Cons
  • Not portable, as found with Nintendo Switch
  • We found the Pro model integrated better with PSVR
  • Not optimized for 4K content

The Sony PlayStation 4 Slim is, in a word, iconic, offering budget-friendly access to the company’s fantastic library of titles, with over 200 Game of the Year awards among them, and featuring the gamer-friendly design the console has become known for. It ships with a built-in 1TB hard drive, which is great, and the classic DualShock4 wireless controller, which offers dozens of hours of game play on a single charge.

Those looking for portable gaming, however, should look elsewhere, such as to the Nintendo Switch, as the console’s cloud gaming service still has multiple hiccups. Also, though the Slim does work well with the PlayStation VR device, the PlayStation Pro was built from the ground up with VR functionality in mind and, as such, offers a better gameplay experience.

#7  CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme Gaming PC

Award: BEST GAMING PC

WHY WE LIKE IT: Extremely high quality gaming PC bundle that includes a computer with a powerful ninth generation Intel Core processor and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 graphics card, shipping with a fantastic gaming mouse and keyboard.

Pros
  • Powerful NVIDIA video card
  • 1 year parts and labor, lifetime tech support
  • 240GB SSD and 1TB HDD
Cons
  • Processor is plenty fast, but some computers have more power
  • 8GB of RAM
  • Generic 500 watt power supply

The CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme Gaming PC is a spectacular all-in-one gaming PC bundle that has everything you need to get going with recent Steam releases, including full integration with popular VR systems, including Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The graphics are state-of-the-art, thanks to the included NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB video card, and the storage is plentiful, with a 240GB solid state drive and a 1TB hard disk drive. We also loved the included gaming mouse and keyboard, both of which are of a high quality.

Though we found the Intel Core i5-9400F 2.9GHz 6-Core processor to be fast enough to run modern games at advanced settings, there are speedier processors to be found with different gaming PCs, though the differences tend to be negligible. Additionally, it only comes with 8GB of DDR RAM, though it is easily upgradeable with a maximum of 64GB of RAM.

How We Decided

To help narrow to the above list, we took a look at nearly every aspect of gaming, placing a particular emphasis on the kinds of accessories that make it such an enjoyable hobby. We tried out a bevy of popular gaming headsets before finally picking a favorite, as we did the same for gaming keyboards, gaming chairs and other accessory types.

The above products are useful for PC gamers and for console gamers alike, though there are certain exceptions. We made sure each and every product we chose featured a high build quality, often with long lasting warranties, and performed as advertised. We also tried out a handful of VR-centric accessories and consoles, as virtual reality has continued to gain a foothold in the market.

As far as gaming consoles go, we ended up choosing the PlayStation 4 Slim as our favorite, though the PlayStation 4 Pro and the Nintendo Switch were also beloved by our team. The Pro offers a 4K-friendly experience that is built to enhance VR while the Nintendo Switch allows access to the company’s excellent library of content, while offering true portability.

Gaming Buying Guide

The Most Important Features to Consider

  1. Accessory Type
Take a moment to think what type of gaming accessory would truly enhance your experience. Are you looking for a wireless headset that has a built-in microphone? Then look no further than our top pick. Are you looking for a high quality gaming chair made from ultra-durable components? Our number two pick will be right up your alley. We also offer picks for best gaming keyboard and best gaming mouse, among others.
  2. Virtual Reality
Virtual reality is a segment of the gaming industry that has featured extreme growth throughout the past few years. Headsets, produced by companies such as Oculus and Sony, offer an experience like no other. To that end, we made sure that the best console we picked integrated nicely with VR and we tried out all of the top headsets, eventually settling on the Oculus Quest All-in-one VR Gaming Headset as our top pick, for budgetary and ease-of-use reasons.
  3. Gaming Consoles and PC Builds
Obviously, some of the accessories we spotlighted are more appropriate for a PC build than a gaming console, such as our picks for best gaming keyboard and best gaming mouse. On the topic of best gaming console, we ended up picking the Sony PlayStation 4 Slim due to its relative affordability and access to a stellar library of games, though the Nintendo Switch was not far behind.

Gaming Gear in 2022 (May Reviews) FAQs

What is the best gaming PC 2022?

After plenty of testing, we ended up picking the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme as our favorite gaming PC for the years covering 2018, 2019 and 2020. It features a powerful processor, a good graphics card and comes with a dedicated gaming keyboard and gaming mouse.

How much RAM do I need for gaming?

We’d recommend 8GB or 16GB of RAM as a good amount to handle most modern games at advanced settings. Going higher, to the 32GB or 64GB territory, may not offer immediate benefits but will serve to “future proof” your rig.

How much does a good gaming PC cost 2020?

You can actually purchase a decent gaming machine without breaking the bank. Our pick for best gaming PC, the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme, is actually quite affordable, for instance.

Do you guys recommend the Nintendo Switch?

Absolutely! We love the Nintendo Switch and it nearly made the jump to best gaming console, but was slightly outdone by the PlayStation 4 Slim by the sheer force of Sony’s excellent library of titles.
