It’s pretty normal to find people walking around with $1000 phones nowadays, but not so many of them put as much thought into what happens in the event of loss theft, or when you accidentally drop it and it’s expensive screen gets damaged. Luckily, various telecoms do offer cell phone insurance plans that you can look into. In this particular review, we’re going to take an indepth look at what you can expect from a Verizon phone warranty plan, and try to see if it’s one of the best cell phone insurance plans at your disposal.

Why We Like It – Verizon Phone Warranty

Knowing about which options exist within the verizon phone warranty plans is key to having a good idea about what to expect when your phone gets stolen or damaged. This will help ease the financial burden that comes with having to do repairs or replacements, and give you a good idea of what Verizon insurance plan is best suited for you. Or if price is not an issue, take a look at the Virgin Mobile Phone Insurance if you want a plan that offers a bit more.

Pros
  • Affordable
  • 5 Different options available
  • Unlimited screen crack repairs for $29
Cons
  • Cheaper options available

Coverage & Deductible

The Verizon Extended Warranty coverage will cost you up to $5 per month, making it cheaper than anything that you can get from the Akko Phone Insurance plan. There’s no device replacement when your phone gets lost stolen or damaged accidentally, but It’s also the only plan where you can make as many claims as you want, and the only one that has no deductible. The wireless device protection plan goes for $3.10 to $6.85 per month, and is the one to go for if you want coverage for accidental damage at the bare minimum. The total equipment coverage plan is offered for $7 to $11 per month, and covers both malfunctions and accidental damage, but doesn’t include any additional services. You’ll get to enjoy all the above plus access to Verizon Tech Coach with the Total Mobile Protection plan at $12 to $15 per month, but with Verizon Protect at $14 to $17 per month, you’ll get all the above plus Digital Secure & Identity Theft protection as additional services. The three plans that you’ll get with Verizon offer just a little more flexibility compared to the two that are available under the Geek Squad Phone Protection Plan, and that’s something that you really want to think about. Also, the deductibles that you’ll get under each plan is something you really want to pay close attention to before you decide the kind of plan or even insurance company you’re going to subscribe to. With Verizon’s coverage plans, there aren’t any deductibles on the extended warranty, but you will have an accidental damage repair deductible of $9 to $249 ($29 screen repair) and a loss or theft deductible that ranges from $9 to $249 under the Wireless phone protection plan. With the remaining three tiers that are higher up, you’ll get the same deductibles as the Wireless phone protection plan, and a limit to the amount of claims you can make, at 3 for every year. If all this sounds a bit too complicated, you can choose a plan like the Usaa Cell Phone Insurance that offers only one option.

Backup Services

The only differences between the remaining 3 options, which are the total mobile protection coverage, the wireless phone protection coverage, and the verizon protect cover have to do with the inclusion of Verizon Tech Coach (a personalized technical Verizon support service), VPN safe WiFi, a digital secure package and a Identity Theft protection package. More on that as you continue with the review.

Customer Service

The most affordable plan you can opt for is the Verizon Extended warranty coverage. It’s cheaper than what you’ll have to pay for under the Squaretrade phone insurance plan, though it doesn’t offer as much in terms of deductibles. The Verizon Extended warranty covers most of the manufacturer defects after the standard warranty, but it doesn’t include coverage for accidental loss theft. Next in line is the wireless phone protection plan, where coverage is offered for accidental damage, as well as one of each included accessory. This might be your phone’s battery, car charger, case or earbud. Manufacturer defects after the warranty aren’t covered, and the number of claims you can make in a year are reduced to 3.

Security Features

The Verizon wireless insurance plan offers about 5 different tiers of coverage for you to choose from. The top three include coverage for theft, loss, accidental damage, as well as manufacturer’s defects. The remaining two cover all the above, but they also include a couple of additional benefits, and are a little more price friendly in the long run. Here’s a more insightful breakdown on the plans, deductibles, as well as extent of coverage.

Value

Let’s face it, we’re all addicted to our phones. According to research from a RescueTime (a time tracking software company), the average user spends just slightly over three hours of screen time everyday on their phones. This could probably be one of the reasons why so many of us are ready to spend (or invest) significant amounts of money into buying a good quality device. The Verizon Insurance plans that we’ve discussed in this review are perfect for keeping you safe from any unforeseen occurrences, so if you’re able to spend almost $1000 for your phone, then there’s definitely a plan there for you.

Verizon Phone Warranty Wrap Up

Cell phone insurance is commonly misunderstood and perceived as something that’s difficult to wrap your head around, but once you have a good idea of what’s on offer, making a smart choice becomes very easy. The per month premiums are meant to be affordable enough to keep up with, so you don’t really have an excuse not to be subscribed to a plan.
